Abstract
Objective: This study aims to assess the status and impact of part-time work on the academic results of Nursing students at Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 150 Nursing students from June to September 2024 using simple random sampling. Data were collected via a self-administered questionnaire with high reliability (CVI = 1, Cronbach’s Alpha = 0,66).
Results: Females predominated (82,0%), mostly sophomores and seniors. About 76,7% of students held jobs unrelated to their major, with sales services being the most common (42,0%). The primary motivation for working was to earn income (34,7%). Notably, students working 4 - 6 hours per day achieved the highest academic scores. Although 54,7% of students felt unaffected, the percentage of students with scores below 6,0 increased by 6% after starting part-time work.
Conclusion: Part-time work has a dual impact. With proper time management (approximately 4 - 6 hours per day), it can positively support academic outcomes. However, the university should facilitate access to major-related jobs to optimize students› practical skills.
