Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of nursing care provided to pediatric patients undergoing strabismus surgery at the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department, Vietnam National Eye Hospital in 2025.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from February to June 2025. The study population included 17 nurses directly caring for patients undergoing strabismus surgery. Data were collected through direct and indirect observation (patient medical records) using a checklist covering essential technical procedures such as visual acuity testing, refraction, strabismus measurement, binocular vision assessment, wound dressing, eye drop administration, and preoperative patient transfer.
Results: Full adherence to procedures assessing visual function was achieved in 97.3% of cases. Documentation of disease symptoms and severity reached 92.7%. Care stratification and monitoring of clinical progress were fully implemented in 94.7%. Postoperative nursing care activities were adequately performed in 86.7% to 96.7% of cases.
Conclusion: Comprehensive nursing care planning, strict adherence to technical procedures, continuous monitoring, and health education for family members play a crucial role in improving treatment outcomes and minimizing postoperative complications in pediatric strabismus surgery.
