Abstract
Objective: Practice on neonatal jaundice of mothers with children under 28 days old and some related factors at Tuyen Quang General Hospital in 2025.
Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study in 280 mothers with newborn children (under 28 days old) being monitored and treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Pediatrics of Tuyen Quang General Hospital from January 2025 to May 2025.
Results: 33.9% of mothers practiced successfully, of which practicing early detection techniques (skin pressure: 15.7%) and seeking timely medical care (taking the child to the doctor immediately: 44.3%; within 12 hours when requested by health workers: 44.6%) were limited. The group of mothers under 25 years old, ethnic minorities, low education level, living in rural areas, manual labor, income ≤ 3 million/month, having relatives working in the medical profession, not regularly seeking information tend to have incorrect practices 5.3; 7.5; 5.0; 10.8; 5.2; 10.0; 17.5 times higher than the group ≥ 25 years old, Kinh ethnic group, high education level, living in urban areas, intellectual labor, income > 3 million, having relatives working in the medical profession, seeking information.
Conclusion: The rate of mothers practicing neonatal jaundice is still low. Demographic and social factors such as young age, ethnic minority, low education, living in rural areas, low income, manual labor, no relatives in the medical profession, first-time birth, and lack of information all increase the risk of poor practice. In particular, mothers who do not seek information are 17.5 times more likely to practice poorly than those who do.
