Abstract
Objective: To describe the status of patients and nursing care results after laparoscopic cholecystectomy due to gallstones at the Department of Surgery, Ninh Binh Provincial General Hospital in 2024.
Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 123 patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy due to gallstones from February to August 2024 using a toolkit developed based on 12 professional tasks on patient care prescribed in Circular 31/2021/TT-BYT, the toolkit was assessed for reliability with a Cronback’s Alpha score of 0.75.
The results: Showed that the proportion of women was higher than that of men (male: female ratio was 1:2.15), and the average age of patients was 55.04 ± 15.02. There was 68.3% of patients had normal BMI, 83.7% had elective surgery, and 16,3% had emergency surgery. The average hospital stay was 9.7 ± 3.3 days and the postoperative treatment time was 5.7 ± 1.8 days. After 3 days of surgery, no patient had moderate or severe pain. 100% of patients were counseled and instructed on personal hygiene on the first day after surgery. The rate of patients who were counseled for follow-up visits increased from 76.4% on day 1 to 92.7% on day 3. The results of good care accounted for 82.9%.
Conclusion: The patient’s health status improved significantly after 3 days of surgery. Nearly 10% of patients have not received nutritional advice on the first day after surgery. Recommendation: Strengthen nutritional counseling and health education for patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy due to gallstones from the first day after surgery.
