Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of simulation-based training in improving clinical decision-making skills among third-year nursing students at Nam Dinh University of Nursing.
Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted on 200 bachelor nursing students from February to June 2025. Clinical decision-making skills were measured using a 24-item scale with scores ranging from 24 to 120 points. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, applying the Paired sample t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05.
Results: Before the intervention, the mean score for students’ clinical decision-making skills was 85.34 ± 16.88. Following the intervention, the mean score significantly increased to 94.83 ± 12.24 (p < 0.05). Improvements were observed across all three proficiency levels: the low-level group increased from 56.21 ± 11.73 to 79.68 ± 6.42 points; the moderate-level group increased from 72.40 ± 3.05 to 85.58 ± 8.26 points; and the high-level group increased from 94.89 ± 11.08 to 100.55 ± 9.93 points.
Conclusion: Simulation-based training demonstrates significant effectiveness in improving nursing students’ clinical decision-making skills, with the most substantial impact observed in students with initially low skill levels. Nursing educational institutions should continue to implement this trainging method and emphasize individualized support for students with low level of clinical decision-making abilities during the simulation training process.
