Abstract
Objective: To describe the nutritional status of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who are being treated at Thai Binh Lung Hospital.
Method: Patients diagnosed as COPD according to GOLD standards (2013) are being treated at Thai Binh Lung Hospital from August 2017 to January 2018. Using descriptive cross-sectional method, describing the nutritional status of COPD patients through BMI, arm circumference; evaluating the nutritional status of patients using SGA, MNA and biochemical indicators.
Results: The proportion of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with malnutrition accounted for 62.2% (by BMI), over 50% (by SGA), 93.4% (by MNA), respectively. The measuring arm circumference (MAC )reults indicated that 45.6% of patients with MAC were at the threshold of malnutrition. The rate of patients with Albumin decreased slightly accounted for 25.4% and decreased moderately accounted for 5.3%. Regarding serum protein status, 28.9% of patients have a decrease in serum protein. Average dietary energy is 843.3 Kcal, which only met 50.05% of demand according to Vietnam’s recommendation, only 7% of patients met the demand for dietary energy.
Conclusion: The proportion of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were high proportion of malnutrition. In the diet of patients withchronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the average dietary energy reached only 50.05% of the demand of Vietnam’s recommendation
