Abstract
Objective: To examine the maternal self-efficacy for diarrhea prevention in children under 5 years old and related factors at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy hospital.
Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study on sample of 113 mothers who had children under 5 years old with diarrhea at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy hospital. Data was collected from October /2019 to April /2020. Research instruments included a demographic questionnaire, and the Maternal Self-Efficacy Scale for the Prevention of the Child Diarhea (MSESPCD) (Emanuella, at al, 2012) with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.827 in the present study. Data was analyzed by the SPSS 20.0 program using descriptive and Chi-Square test statistic method.
Results: There were 92.9% of mothers with low self-efficacy level, 7.1% of mothers with medium self-efficacy level, none of mothers with high self-efficacy level in preventing diarrhea in children under 5 years old. There was a statistically significant relationship between mother’s recidence, occupation, educationa level, the family’s water source with maternal self-efficacy (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Nurses in interdisciplinary group should consider the intervention programs to improve the maternal self-efficacy in the prevention and care of children with diarrhea.
