Abstract
Objectives: To describe the burden of family members who directly take care of patients after gastric and colorectal surgery and to identify some related factors at Hanoi Medical University Hospital in 2022.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted. Using Zarit’s burden of care questionnaire on 150 family members who directly care for patients after gastric and colorectal surgery, thereby assessing some factors related to the burden of care.
Results: The Zarit burden score on caregivers was 32.47 ± 13.62. Most carers feel burdened on average with 58.00%. Factors that associate caregiver burden include: age, gender, income level, caregiver relationship, and age of the patient.
Conclusion: The burden of family members directly taking care of patients after gastric and colorectal surgery is moderate. This suggests that nurses should pay more attention to this population, especially elderly and low-income family members, to develop appropriate intervention strategies further.
