Abstract
Objectives: To describe the knowledge, attitude and behavior among mothers whose under five years old- children with diarrhea. Also, identify some factors related to knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of mothers who have children under 5 years of age with diarrhea in General Pediatric Department - Dak Lak General Hospital in 2016.
Method: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study, conducted among 384 mothers who have children under 5 years old with diarrhea at General Pediatric Department, Dak Lak General Hospital.
Results: The percentage of mothers who have right knowledge, attitude and behavior about diarrhea were 34,4%; 96.3% and 35.4%. The factors such as age group, ethnicity, education level and source of information were associated with maternal knowledge about diarrhea (p <0.05). Mothers with right knowledge had better behavior than mothers with not right knowledge in caring for their child (p <0.05).
Conclusions: Good at knowledge and behavior of mothers whose under 5 years old- children with diarrhea in General Pediatric Department - Dak Lak General Hospital were low. Therefore, we should be strengthen the health education for mothers about prevention and treatment on diarrhea - this is an important step in order to reduce morbidity and mortality among children under 5 years of age.
