Abstract
Objectives: To describe some factors related to the compliance with the use of iron and folic acid tablets of pregnant women who come for pregnancy examination and management at the Department of Obstetrics at Hospital E in 2022.
Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 340 pregnant women who visited the obstetrics and gynecology department of Hospital E by using a questionnaire to assess compliance with Brief Medication Questionnaire drug use from February to May 2022.
Results: Found an association between side effects of iron and folic acid with adherence to using of iron and folic acid of pregnant women with p < 0,05. Anemic women with current pregnancies have a higher rate of adherence to medication than women without gestational anemia p < 0,05. An association was found between being counseled about the use of iron and Folic acid of health care workers with the adherence to use of iron and folic acid of pregnant women with p < 0,05. Knowledge of pregnant women about the effects of iron and folic acid, frequency of antenatal care also has an impact. significantly to the rate of adherence to iron and folic acid use.
Conclusion: Iron and folic acid deficiency is a common public health problem in pregnant women, so health workers should recommend counseling on iron and folic acid use to prevent anemia as well as promote the benefits of early antenatal care to improve iron and folic acid adherence.
