Abstract
Objective: To describe situation of maternal care in the first 6 hours after cesarean sections provided by nurses at the Anesthesia and Recovery department, Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in 2021.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study have been implemented on 100 mothers being cared by nurses at the department in the first 6 hours after cesarean section. Observation checklist of maternal care process and interview questionnaire were used for each mother.
Results: Rate of successful implementation of greeting the mother before each nursing care was 75.0%. Attitudes such as Caring, be considerate, welcoming and Encouraging, explaining to the mothers during the care achieved high successful rates at 91% and 95% respectively. All (100%) of the observations showed good performance of the nurses as immediate presence when required or needed and prompt action when the mother had abnormal signs or needed support. Successful rate of Support to mothers in eating, exercising and cleaning were at the highest of 100%, followed by successful rate of psychological and spiritual support (90.0%). The lowest percentages were successful rate of Breastfeeding guide (47.0%) and the Postpartum care (54.0%).
Conclusions: The maternal care in the first 6 hours after cesarean section of the nurses was good, successful rates of many criterias were 90 - 97.0%. However, successful rates of several activities in this maternal care were still low. In order to maintain and strengthen quality of this maternal care, it is neccesary to implement regular training for nurses or daily supportive supervision by the department, the hospital themselves as well as references of other related evaluation.
