Abstract
Objective: To describe the state of knowledge and prevention of female lower reproductive tract infections.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from 1-12 / 2018. 822 women aged 18-49 using the service at the community health station were interviewed with a set of pre-designed questionnaires on knowledge and practices of the prevention of lower genital tract infections. Tools used are based on existing literature and some research related to the research topic.
Results: 38.5% -86.6% of the interviewees are aware of the signs of the infection; 48.4% -87.8% of participants are able to identify the causes; 38.9% to 85.4% know the pathogen; 41.5% -85.5% of the participant are able to recognize the consequences of the disease and 72.5% -88.3% know the disease prevention measures. Up to 94.5% of people use hygienic menstrual pads; 94.3% of participants replace the pads 3 times per day during menstruation; 90% cleanse their genital ≥ 3 times per day during menstruation; 73.4% cleanse their genital properly and 42% of the participants cleanse their genital ≥ 3 times daily.
Conclusion: Participnats have relatively good knowlege about the disease and prevention methods. However, some women still do not recognize the signs, causes, pathogens, consequences and preventive measures as well as inappropriate behavior when they get lower reproductive tract infection.
