Abstract
Objectives: To examine the current status of nurses’ attitude to fall prevention for patients at Vinmec Time City International General Hospital in 2023.
Research methods: Cross-sectional study on 179 nurses working at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital in 2023. There was a questionaire in references from the Fall Knowledge Test Toolkit of the American Organization for Health Policy Research and Quality Assurance (AHRQ), Bach Mai Hospital’s fall management process and some conducted studies. The attitude toolkit was designed as a Linkert scale, which was assessed to be reliable with Cronbach’s Alpha greater than 0.7.
Results: Out of a total of 179 nurses participating in the study, only 0.6% of nurses did not update their knowledge about falls. Among the nurses who updated their knowledge, 98.3% believed that their knowledge was updated. There was 82.1% of nurses had a positive attitude about fall prevention. Research showed that there was a relationship between the type of training, level, seniority, reporting and knowledge of nurses and attitudes about fall prevention.
Conclusion: 82.1% of nurses had a positive attitude about fall prevention. There was a relationship between nurses’ attitudes about fall prevention and a number of factors: form of training, professional qualifications, seniority, having made fall reports, and knowledge about fall prevention. In the care and management of fall risk in hospitals, it is necessary to regularly update knowledge for nurses with less than five years of experience, nurses trained through continued study, haved college degrees and nurses who have not yet implemented fall reporting.
