Abstract

Objective: To describe the current quality of life and to identify related factors of patients with chronic renal failure.

Method: The cross sectional study was conductedamong76 patients receiving treatment in Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital in 2016. KDQOL-SF (Kidney disease quality of life - Short Form) version 1.3 was applied to assess the quality of life and analyzing pearson correlation (r) was used to determine related factors to quality of life.

Result: The quality of life of patients with chronic renal failure was 43.6 ± 11.2 out of 100, 59.21% of patients had poor quality of life. Majority of Patients with chronic renal failure had a poor quality of life score (59.21%). Physical Health Score was 33.9 ± 13.3. Mental Health Score was 53.2 ± 13.2. The SF-36 quality of life score was 43.6 ± 11.2. The score of major kidney problems is higher than 50 points, in which the dialysis support and social interaction scores are high, in the order of 68.0 ± 19.2 and 67.2 ± 13.5 points. The sexual function scores and burden of renal disease were less than 50, respectively, 24.4 ± 20.0 and 32.1 ± 14.7. Physical health is related to age. There was positive correlation, mean score between physical health score with symptom score, burden of kidney disease, cognitive function, quality of social interaction, sexual function, sleep. There was a positive correlation between mental health scores and symptoms (r = 0.584; p <0.001) and the quality of social interaction(r = 0.531; p <0.001).

Conclusion: Patients with chronic renal failure in the study had poor quality of life. Physical health is related to age. Symptoms, social interactions, sleep and sexuality of renal patients affect quality of life. Nursing plans for health care and education to reduce symptoms, increase awareness, improve sleep to improve the quality of life of patients with renal failure., quality of social interaction, sleep and sexuality of renal patients affect their quality of life.
