Abstract

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of fall risk and associated factors among patients with heart failure admitted to the Department of Cardiology, 108 Military Central Hospital.

Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 81 patients with heart failure who were hospitalized overnight between May 2024 and August 2024. The Johns Hopkins Fall Risk Assessment Tool (JHFRAT) was applied to evaluate fall risk in these patients.

Results: The mean age was 75.6 ± 13.3 years, with a predominance of male patients. The majority of patients exhibited a moderate fall risk (69.1%), while 17.3% had a high fall risk. The study revealed that only age group was significantly associated with fall risk. Patients aged ≥70 years had a 6.4-fold higher likelihood of falls compared to those younger than 70 years (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: Patients with heart failure presented with a high prevalence of fall risk, with 86.4% classified as having moderate to high risk. Advanced age (≥ 70 years) was identified as an important independent risk factor. These findings highlight the need for systematic fall risk screening and preventive interventions in patients with heart failure, particularly in the elderly population.
