Abstract

Objectives: To assess the nutrition status of patients of cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 150 cancer patients receiving chemotherapy at the center of nuclear medicine and oncology of Military Medical Hospital 103. Anthropometric indices (weight, height) were collected, nutritional status was classified based on BMI classified by WHO, nutritional risk factors were identified based on PG –SGA, interview the patient about the diet, biochemical parameters (hemoglobin, albumin) were collected from the medical records.

Results: According to the research, the average patient’s age is 57.1, the proportion of male patients (61.3%) was higher than female ones (38.7%). Assessing nutritional status of patients based on BMI, the malnutrition rate is 27.3% and the obese status rate is 2.7%. Cancer patients who are at risk of malnutrition classified by PG-SGA accounted for 58%. Of the total 150 cancer patients 21.4% was undernourished based on serum albumin level. The rate of anemic patients is 58%. It is 59.3% of patients having 24 hour-the meal which were in suficient to meet the recommended demand.

Conclusions: Malnutrition of cancer patients was at a quite high level and this health problem needs to be considered.
