Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of nursing care activities for patients undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation at the A9 Emergency Center, Bach Mai Hospital, in 2024.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 150 patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation at the A9 Emergency Center from February to August 2024. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire developed based on the Ministry of Health Circular No. 31/2021/TT-BYT. The instrument demonstrated good reliability, with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.817. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0.
Results: Overall, 77.3% of patients received good-quality nursing care, while 22.7% were assessed as receiving suboptimal care. Most nursing care activities achieved a good performance level (≥ 80%) on day 7 of treatment, including vital sign monitoring, airway care, ventilator monitoring, sedation management, complication prevention, and family counseling. However, perineal hygiene and pressure injury care had not yet reached optimal levels.
Conclusion: Nursing care activities for patients undergoing invasive mechanical ventilation at the A9 Emergency Center of Bach Mai Hospital were generally well implemented; however, certain aspects require further improvement to enhance comprehensive care quality. Continuous training, supervision, and standardization of nursing care practices through evidence-based care bundles are recommended to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications associated with invasive mechanical ventilation.
