Abstract
Objective: To describe knowledge about complementary diets of mothers with children from 6 to 24 months of age treated at Nam Dinh Pediatric Hospital in 2019.
Method: cross-sectional descriptive studies Currently, from November 2018 to November 2019, all mothers (54 mothers) with children from 6 to 24 months of age treated at Nam Dinh Paediatric Hospital. Participants were interviewed directly by means of pre-designed questionnaires with related knowledge about complementary diets for children.
Results: 33.3% of mothers have the right knowledge about the time for children to have supplement following WHO recommendations. 11.1%of mothers knew the consequence of early complementary feeding which lead to decrease in children’s breast-feeding. The proportion of mothers who had correct knowledge about the time of feeding children was 20.4%. The proportion of mothers who had a good knowledge of choosing foods for complementary feeding was 35.2%.
Conclusion: The curent situation of the mothers’ knowledge about complementary diets for children from 6 to 24 months of age is not good.
