Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the change in knowledge of complementary feeding of mothers having children aged between 6 and 24 months treated in Nam Dinh pediatric hospital in 2019.
Subjects and methods: Educational intervention research, from November 2018 to November 2019, 54 mothers with children from 6 to 24 months of age treated in Nam Dinh Paediatric Hospital. Participants were interviewed by means of pre-designed questionnaires with related knowledge of complementary feeding for children.
Results: Before the intervention, the mothers’ knowledge mean score was 16.43 ± 5.09,after the intervention, the figure increased to 33.28 ± 2.08 and remained at 29.96 ± 2.97 after 1 month of intervention. The difference was statistically significant with P <0.05. The proportion of mothers with accurate knowledge of appropriate timing of complementary feeding according to WHO recommendations increasing after intervention was 90.7% and maintained at a fairly high level of 77.8% after 1 month. The percentage of correct knowledge of the time when children fed porridge increased after the intervention was 98.1% and maintained at 90.7% after 1 month.
Conclusion: Knowledge of complementary feeding of mothers with children from 6 to 24 months of age was improved after the intervention
