Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the quality of life (QoL) of lung cancer patients 4-6 months after surgery at the 108 Military Central Hospital.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 350 patients with stage I–IIIA non-small cell lung cancer who underwent surgical resection. QoL was assessed using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-LC13 questionnaires. Data were analyzed using biostatistical algorithms with the support of SPSS 24.0 software, at a 95% confidence level, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05.

Results: The global health status score was at a moderate level (60.9 ± 12.7). Among the functional scales, cognitive function was best preserved (71.6 ± 10.8), while role function was the most affected (59.0 ± 17.3). Fatigue and pain were the two most prominent systemic symptoms. Dyspnea when climbing stairs was the most severe disease-specific symptom (46.8 ± 25.1). Treatment-related side effects were at low levels.

Conclusion: Quality of life of lung cancer patients 4-6 months after surgery was at a moderate level, with impaired role function and respiratory symptom burden being the two main concerns. QoL assessment should be incorporated into routine follow-up protocols, and early pulmonary rehabilitation programs should be developed for this patient population.
