Abstract

Objective: To describe the current situation and find out some factors related to emotional stress of female regular nursing students at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2020.

Method: Subjects are 199 female students in the first and second years of regular nursing studying at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy; study design cross-section description.

Results: The total emotional stress score of the first and second year nursing students at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy was 24.1 ± 5.8. The proportion of students with high emotional stress was 20.6%. The proportion of students with high learning pressure is 29.1%. The proportion of students with poor social support is 44.2%. Japanese language class students have a higher risk of emotional stress than those studying English classes, p <0.05. Students with average or less academic performance have a higher risk of emotional stress than students with better academic performance with p <0.05. The group of students with high learning pressure had a higher risk of emotional stress than the group with medium and low pressure with p <0.05. The risk of high-level emotional stress of students with poor social support was higher than the group of students receiving good social support with p <0.05.

Conclusion: The proportion of students with high emotional stress was 20.6%. The proportion of students under high academic pressure is 29.1%, so students, schools, families and society need to work together to improve students’ emotional stress.
