Abstract
Objective: To identify main factors affecting the decision to study in Nam Dinh University of Nursing and levels of influence by these factors among students in the academic year 2020-2021.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with a sample size of 350 first-year students of Nam Dinh University of Nursing who met the interview criteria by a self-completed quetionnaire.
Results: Three main factors affecting students’ decision included “Future opportunities and personal interests”, “University characteristics and personal conditions” and “Communication”, The levels of influence of the above factors were different with the normalized beta coefficients of 0.477; 0.224; 0.180, respectively. There was no difference in the decision on university selection related to the socio-demographic characteristics of students.
Conclusion: The factors affecting the students’ decision to study in Nam Dinh University of Nursing differated in levels of influence, from strong to weak: “Future opportunities and personal preferences”, “University characteristics and personal conditions“ and “Communication”. Therefore, Nam Dinh University of Nursing needs to improve the quality of these factors to enhance the effectiveness of enrollment counseling.
