Abstract

Objective: To analyze factors associated with knowledge and attitudes toward pain management among clinical nurses at Vinmec Times City International Hospital in 2025.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 262 nurses working in 8 clinical departments at Vinmec Times City International Hospital between January and July 2025. Data were collected using the Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain (KASRP).

Results: The proportion of nurses achieving the required level of knowledge and attitudes toward pain management was 73.3%, while 26.7% did not achieve. Statistically significant factors included educational level (associate degree nurses had a higher rate of not achieving compared to bachelor’s/postgraduate nurses; p = 0.014), professional competency level (nurses below level 3 had a higher rate of not achieving compared to level ≥ 3; p = 0.031), working unit (nurses in Internal Medicine and Surgery/Obstetrics had higher rates of not achieving compared to Oncology, Intensive Care, and Pediatrics; p <0.01), and workload (nurses caring for ≤ 5 patients/day had a higher rate of not achieving; p = 0.014). In addition, practice and training were strongly associated: nurses who did not regularly assess pain (p = 0.006), had not participated in workshops/training (p = 0.004), or reported inadequate training (p = 0.003) had higher rates of not achieving. By contrast, age, gender, years of service, and internal hospital training showed no statistically significant association (p > 0.05).

Conclusion: Knowledge and attitudes toward pain management among nurses at Vinmec Times City were significantly influenced by educational level, professional competency, working unit, workload, routine pain assessment, and participation in specialized training.
