Abstract
Objective: Assessment of changes in people’s knowledge about hepatitis B prevention after health education intervention in Trung Nguyen commune, Yen Lac district, Vinh Phuc province in 2018.
Method: An uncontrolled intervention study with pre and post comparison was conducted on 198 people aged 18 years and over who stayed from January 2018 to the end of June 2018.
Results: Results showed that the average score of knowledge increased and statistically significant at 28.10 ± 3.14 points after the intervention and remained high after 3 months of intervention with 23, 45 ± 3.40 points compared with 16.88 ± 4.79 points before intervention (p <0.05). Immediately after health education, the percentage of people with knowledge has increased significantly with 91.4% and remained at 63.6% after 3 months of intervention compared to 16.7% before intervention (p <0.01).
Conclusion: Results show the important role of communication counseling - health education and the need to scale up this health education intervention program to the community and routine implementation to maintain proper knowledge about hepatitis B prevention
