Abstract
Objective: This research is done in order to describe the situation of breastfeeding knowledge of pregnant women examined at Nam Dinh Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2020.
Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study conducted from December 2019 to June 2020 on 153 pregnant women examined at Nam Dinh Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Those were interviewed directly by pre-designed survey questionnaire about knowledge of breast-feeding and breastfeeding right after birth.
Results: The percentage of pregnant women who meet the standard is 10.5%, and the rate of pregnant women who fail to meet the standard is 89.5%. The percentage of pregnant women with the right knowledge of breast-feeding is 78.4%, the rate of women with correct knowledge of colostrum concept was 66.7%, the rate of women with correct knowledge of timing on right after birth-giving breastfeeding is 58.2% The rate of pregnant women with incorrect knowledge about effective breastfeeding signals was 45.8%.
Conclusion: The knowledge of pregnant women to breastfeed immediately after birth is not good.
