Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the changes in practice on using metered-dose inhalers among patients with COPD at the Outpatient Department of Nghe An Friendship General Hospital after an health educational intervention program.
Method: The One Group Pretest-Posttest Design was carried out for 60 COPD patients managed by the Outpatient Department of Nghe An Friendship General Hospital during the period of March to June 2021.
Results: Before the intervention (T1), the mean score of patients’ practice on using MDIs was 7.03 ± 1.12 points out of total 9 points on the scale. The percentage of patients who had practice at the accepted level was 6.7%. After the intervention (T2) and one month later (T3), the mean scores of patients’ practice on using MDIs were 8.63 ± 0.86 points and 8.20 ± 1.12 points, respectively (p values of 0.05). The percentages of patients who had practice at the accepted level increased highly at 81.7% and 55%, respectively.
Conclusion: The patients’ practice on using MDIs within the study was poor and improved significantly after the educational intervention.
