Abstract
Objectives: To describe the knowledge and practices on prevention of complications of hypertensive patients treated as outpatients at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital in 2025.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 377 patients diagnosed and managed with hypertension from January 2025 to June 2025 at the outpatient clinic, Cardiovascular Center, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital.
Results: Among the participants, 57.0% were male and 43.0% were female, with a mean age of 64.44 ± 13.97 years. A total of 37.9% had attained college/university education or higher. Freelancers and retirees accounted for the largest occupational group (54.6%). The proportion of patients with adequate knowledge regarding complication prevention was 74.5%, while the proportion with adequate practice was 57.8%.
Conclusion: There was a gap between patient knowledge and practice. This gap reflects the need for solutions to support behavioral change, not just providing knowledge. Therefore, implementing integrated health education models in outpatient disease management, enhancing comprehensive chronic disease management, and applying digital technology are important directions to improve the effectiveness of controlling and preventing complications of hypertension.
