Abstract
Objectives: Assessment of knowledge, practice, and related factors associated with treatment adherence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Tuyen Quang Lung Hospital in 2025.
Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 110 patients from February to May 2025. The research instrument was based on a pre-designed questionnaire developed by author Than Thi Binh and was revalidated, yielding a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.84.
Results: The proportion of patients who had knowledge of all four principles of tuberculosis treatment was 33.6%. The rate of adherent practice among patients was 47%. The mean knowledge score was 10.97 ± 5.04, and the mean practice score was 3.17 ± 2.04. Factors related to treatment adherence included educational level, medication side effects, supervision from family members, geographical difficulties, adherence to scheduled appointment.
Conclusion: The rates of knowledge and practice regarding tuberculosis treatment adherence in this study were low. The healthcare facility needs to enhance health education and counseling activities. It is recommended to organize outreach communication sessions in remote and disadvantaged areas and apply information technology to support, remind, and monitor the treatment adherence process for patients in the consolidation phase.
