Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the changes in clinical decision-making skills of nursing students after applying case-study teaching method.
Method: The one-group pretest-posttest interventional design was conducted from January to September 2017 in Nam Dinh University of Nursing. The ability to make clinical decisions of 83 second-year college nursing students were time-line measured. Student’s levels of clinical decision making included the necessity of educator’s orientation to make decision in all cases (low), in some specific cases (medium), and in no case (good).
Results: The students had low decision-making skills reduced from 68,7% to 9,6% after experimentation. The students had medium decision-making skills increased from 20,5% to 62,7% after experimentation. The students had good decision-making skills increased from 10,8% to 27,7% after experimentation, all the difference were statistically significant (p <0,05).
Conclusions: The simulation teaching method improved the nursing students’ clinical decision-making skills. Therefore, this method should be applied in nursing university in order to improve quality of nursing education.
