Abstract

Objective: To describe the current knowledge of infection control among nurses in surgical wards of Dak Lak general hospital.

Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 55 clinical nurses from 03 surgical wards, Dak Lak General Hospital. A self-completed questionnaire including 35 items designed based on the official documents issued by Ministry of Health of Viet Nam was used.

Results: The overall mean score of knowledge regarding infection control of study’s nurses was 19.9 ± 4.8 points out of 35 points on the total scale; The mean score of knowledge in the group of nurses aged under 40 years old was higher compared to the group of nurses aged above 40 years old (p<0.05); Nurses working in Trauma - Orthopedics ward had a higher mean score of knowledge in comparison with the group of nurses working in General Surgery (p<0.05).

Conclusion: The study revealed a limited knowledge of nurses regarding infection control at the time of the survey and showed the need to consolidate and update knowledge on infection control for nurses in 03 surgical wards of Dak Lak General Hospital.
