Abstract

Objective: To describes treatment adherence and explores the depression predictive ability of treatment adherence among adult Vietnamese HF patients base on multidimensional adherence model of WHO.

Methods: The description crosssectional design was used to study about 82 subjects, diagnosed as HF class II and class III, who were assessed during treatment follow-up visits to the outpatient cardiovascular department of Namdinh General Hospital, Vietnam, from 01/09/2015 to 15/11/2015 by use structured interviews. Data were analyzed via descriptive statistics and standard sample regression.

Results: The findings showed that the majority of participants were age 50-60 (61.0 %) and nearly 2/3 (64.6%) were in HF class III. Overall treatment adherence was moderate (Trung bình = 3.55, SD = 0.61) in that Medication adherence was high (Trung bình = 4.01, SD = 0.77) and lifestyle change adherence was moderate (Trung bình = 3.45, SD = 6.1). Standard sample regression analysis indicated that depression significantly negatively predicted treatment adherence (R2 =0.577, F1,80 = 109.17, p <.001).

Conclusions: The results suggest that nurses, although they cannot affect patient educational attainment, can develop appropriate nursing intervention programs focusing on the depression predictors to improve treatment adherence in heart failure patients.
