Abstract
Objective: To assess the results of an educational intervention in the informal caregivers’ knowledge of motor rehabilitation for stroke patients.
Method: The one group pre-test and post-test educational intervention was designed and performed among 54 informal care gives from 01/2017 - 04/2017 in Quang Ninh General Hospital. Applied stroke recovery exercises based on national guidelines by Minisstry of Health, 2008.
Results: After intervention, the ability of the primary care physician to rehabilitate stroke patients was significantly improved. Specifically, the mean knowledge score increased to 12.94 ± 1.23 points after intervention compared to 5.41 ± 2.07 points before intervention (p <0.001). Before the intervention, the number of care givers with proper knowledge of motor rehabilitation accounted for only 3.7%. After the intervention, this number increased dramatically up to 98.1%.
Conclusion: The primary caregiver of stroke patients has limited awareness of functional rehabilitation for patients before intervention but has improved significantly after intervention.
