Abstract
Objectives: Assessing knowledge and attitudes towards stroke prevention among the elderly in Vi Xuyen ward, Nam Dinh in 2025.
Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with convenience sampling method, 82 elderly people in Vi Ward participated in the study from November 2024 to August 2025. The study used a pre-designed questionnaire to directly interview the research subjects.
Results: 43.9% and 7.4% of elderly people, respectively, had correct knowledge about the organs affected and the causes of stroke. Regarding stroke prevention, only 20.7% knew correctly about quitting or not smoking, 36.6% knew correctly about limiting salt intake, and 39% knew about limiting fats and oils. 34.1% and 25.6% of elderly people, respectively, had correct knowledge about adhering to cardiovascular disease treatment and blood sugar control to prevent stroke. 25.6% of elderly people agreed on the level of danger of stroke, and 61% agreed that stroke is a preventable disease. 46.3% felt confident in implementing stroke prevention measures.
Conclusion: Knowledge and attitude towards stroke prevention are still limited, with 13.4% of the elderly having satisfactory knowledge and 19.5% having a positive attitude. It was necessary to strengthen the design and development of programs to disseminate knowledge about stroke and preventive measures in the community.
