Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the digital competence of nursing students in Asia.

Method: A computerized search was made using the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, ISI, SCOPUS in order to search for relevant researchs during the period from 2014 to 2019. Selected articles had to be research papers in English, full text, answering research questions.

Results: 5 research papers met the criteria were selected for analysis. The analysis of these articles was focused on digital competence of nursing students in Asia, and the findings included digital knowledge (smartphones as the means of communication to use the internet; useful for health issues; knowledge of using software on computers), digital skills (searching, using, evaluating health information on the internet; study skills learning through digital learning outcomes), digital attitudes (frequently using the internet but not for health purposes; spending more time on the internet; exchange information while learning based on digital) as well as the relationship between knowledge, skills, and digital attitudes. The study also revealed a relationship between cognition and digital frequency of regular use of the internet for medical purposes; a connection between awareness of the importance of the Internet and knowledge of electronic health; and a relationship between the attitude of nursing students to the machine calculation and knowledge of electronic health.

Conclusion: The digital competence of nursing students in Asia was still limited. Therefore, to apply digital in nursing education, it is necessary to pay attention to the standardization and improvement of students’ digital competence.
