Abstract
Objective: To describe the knowledge of assessing patient fall risks and to determine related factors among nurses in Nam Dinh General Hospital in 2020.
Method: The cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 170 clinical nurses who had been working in Nam Dinh General Hospital at least for more than one year. All nurses participated to the study were interviewed directly by a self-completed questionnaire regarding to patient risks of falls. Using the “Fall prevention knowledge tests” by Patricia C. Dykes (2019) to assess the nurses’ knowledge.
Results: The results showed that 75.9% of nurses in the study had the poor level of knowledge and only 1.2% of nurses had the good level of knowledge to assess risks of patient falls. Age of nurses and their working experience, their updated knowledge as well as participated training courses with contents regarding to fall prevention showed certain relations to the nurses’ knowledge of fall risk assessment.
Conclusion: This study indicated the limited nurses’ knowledge of assessing patient fall risks and the necessary of training sessions on patient fall risks for nurses within the study.
