Abstract

Objective: To assess the effect of qigong exercises on changing dyspnea, fatigue and anxiety in lung cancer patients.

Method: A randomized controlled trial study was conducted on 2 groups: practicing qigong group and control group. Subjects of the study were 156 people with selected lung cancer and randomly assigned to 2 groups. Data were collected using a set of pre-designed questionnaires to assess the effectiveness of qigong exercises for changing breathing, fatigue and anxiety in patients with lung cancer at times. points: T0 (before grouping) T1 (Second time at the end of the intervention period - after 6 weeks) and T2 (end of the follow-up period - 12 weeks after grouping).

Results: There were no statistical differences between groups about fatigue and anxiety, which meant that qigong did not improve fatigue and anxiety. Qigong significantly improved dyspnea in the 6th week with an average difference of 1.15 (p = 0.001) and the 12th week the average difference was 1.50 (p = 0.025) between the qigong and the group proof.

Conclusion: The results of the current study show that Qigong is not a promising treatment to reduce both of these symptoms. However, qigong is only effective for symptoms of dyspnea.
