Abstract
Objective: To describe the current status of foot self-care knowledge among diabetic patients with foot complications receiving treatment at Ha Dong General Hospital in 2025.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 75 diabetic patients with foot complications who were hospitalized in the Endocrinology Department of Ha Dong General Hospital from December 2024 to August 2025. The assessment tool for patients’ knowledge of diabetic foot care was adapted from the study by Ho Phuong Thuy, with a Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient of 0.8267. The questionnaire included five domains: knowledge of diabetic foot risks; daily foot care; foot protection from injury; circulation improvement for the feet; and detection and management of foot abnormalities.
Results: Among the participants, 17.3% had good knowledge of foot self-care, 5.3% had moderate knowledge, and 77.4% had poor knowledge.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that patients’ knowledge of diabetic foot self-care remains limited. It is essential to enhance patient education regarding the risks of diabetic foot complications, as well as proper methods of foot inspection, protection, and daily care to prevent serious outcomes.
